I Make The Beat Go Boom Papi…

Posted in Dance, Electro, House with tags on October 29, 2008 by goinghometime

Wow, I have a 10 year hiatus and I come back to post one song.

Yes, it is the famous song “Discoteka” by Starkillers, but this time a brand new remix I recently found through a friend…

There is another hot remix somewhere around here posted by Charles Digital which is the “Discoteka (Kobbe and Austin Leeds Remix)”. That is one fucking hot song too you should download.

So here is my one song that I would like to post for all you electro-freaks

“Discoteka (Peter Rauhofer Remix)” By Starkillers

Now dance your asses off, fuckers.

A Gift From Me To You

White Boys

Last night was fun, but fucking insane — unnecessary drama, beer, and someone’s bloody nose. To top if off, a carne asada taco from Rambo’s and a night with Jen.

As a result, it’s been a lazy Sunday, so I’ve been relaxing to the tunes of The Whitest Boy Alive. Erlend Øye is amazing and one of my favorite musicians.

The Whitest Boy Alive “Burning”
The Whitest Boy Alive “Golden Cage”
The Whitest Boy Alive “Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)”

Explorations Of Space

Yo! Check this out, son:

I know it’s still a while away, but after talking about it with Kristel a few nights ago, I’m pretty stoked.

Neither of the following songs have any real relevance to Save NASA, but it fits. Regardless, any time I listen to these songs, I definitely feel like a space explorer…

Cosmic Gate “Exploration Of Space”
Above & Beyond “Miracle (Club Mix)”
Oceanlab “Satellite (Original Above & Beyond Mix)”

Toxic Noize

Posted in Electro with tags , , , , , , on October 17, 2008 by Charles Digital.

Lately, a lot of the remixes I’ve heard from Boys Noize have sucked. Have you heard his remix for A-Trak? What a huge disappointment. And his remix for FrankMusik is catchy and upbeat, but nothing close to his potential. Maybe I’m just spoiled by “Let’s Buy Happiness” to really appreciate those remixes. Nah, fuck that; they were wack.

To this day, ‘LBH’ is my favorite electro song ever. I love how the beat drops from that teasing, grimey synth with its hard, generated hats. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything remotely close in brilliance.

Lo and behold, the Hamburg-native takes on Late Of the Pier’s “Focker” and turns it into a quintessential Boyz Noize banger. This shit is fucking hard. It’s like Boys Noize, aka Alexander Ridha, woke up from a coma and finally came to his senses. Seriously, what took so long? Thankfully, he straightened himself out two weeks prior to HARD. Droooooooool.

Late Of the Pier “Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)”

Oh, did you think I was finished? Hell no.

I’ve suddenly discovered a plethora of Toxic Avenger songs — new and old — I didn’t realize existed. I’ve been on his nuts for a little over a year now, but I was limited to a few songs. I’m kicking myself in the ass for not attending his show a few weeks ago at the Shrine, especially after coming across these gems. I guess I shouldn’t be too upset since he’ll be back November 11 as part of the IHEARTCOMIX Tour with Franki Chan.

This song is one-, maybe two-years old, but it’s still fucking badass! An electro rendition of Blur? Yes, please.

Trash Yourself & The Toxic Avenger “Song 2 (Blur Cover)”

I’m not exactly sure who is Pomomofo, but I’m willing to find out. Obviously he caught Toxic’s attention because he turned his song ‘Island’ into an hypnotic, bass-bumping anthem.

Pomomofo “Island (Toxic Avenger Remix)”

Then there’s the Crystal Castles carbon-copy, HEARTSREVOLUTION. The original track is pretty dope, but a little toxicity doesn’t hurt. (Unless you mutate, in which case you should probably notify the CDC and isolate yourself from society.)

HEARTSREVOLUTION “Switchblade (Toxic Avenger Remix)”

The next one is a re-post, but it’s definitely worth it. Straight electro crack, son!

Toxic Avenger “Defeat!”

Lastly, you can never go wrong with The Toxic Avenger and Les Petits Pilous. It says it all, ‘bad girls need love too,’ so find a biker chick and ask her to cuddle.

Episode II

Posted in Dance, Electronica with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 16, 2008 by Charles Digital.

I’m not letting school, the paper, aliens, sicknesses, a ravenous disease (knock on wood) or Sarah Palin ever stop me from posting again. Nine-day hiatuses just won’t fly. I’d have to be dead or having countless sex with… uh… who’s hot these days? (I don’t watch TV that often) I’ll go with Pixie from L.A. Ink and Misa Campo. Yeah, that works.

While I fantasize about my steamy threesome with Pixie and Misa, here’s a mix I’d love to fuck (or rather dance) to from The Twelves, an electronic duo hailing from Rio de Janeiro. They make some really fun beats to get your hips thrusting and body grooving without any epileptic seizures. Funky bass lines, retro synths, and upbeat melodies are typical of any Twelves song, remix — and in this case — mix. They can definitely rock a workout.

This mix is at least a month and a half old, but I play it every chance I
get (translation: all the time). Radiohead, Of Montreal, Metronomy and Fleet Foxes on a dance mix? You can’t get any more versatile than that (I hope not). It’s just filled with good beats from beginning to end. The bottom line is I like them, I love this mix, and this is my post. Dance.

The Twelves “Episode II”

Here’s the tracklist:
01 Zeigeist “Humanitarianism (The Twelves Replay)”
02 Radiohead “Reckoner (The Twelves Replay)”
03 Mirwais “Naive Song”
04 Of Montreal “Gronlandic Edit”
05 David E. Sugar “To Yourself”
06 The Virgins “Rich Girls (The Twelves Replay)”
07 Daft Punk “Voyager”
08 Jupiter “CHIP”
09 Fleet Foxes “White Winter Hymnal (The Twelves Replay)”
10 Metronomy “Heartbreaker”
11 The Twelves “Works for Me (The Twelves Replay)”
12 Lykke Li “Dance Dance Dance (The Twelves Replay)”

Faxing Berlin, and France.

Posted in Dance, Electro, House with tags , , on October 15, 2008 by Charles Digital.

Germany breeds the best electro, techno artists out there, hands down. Having played Housemeister’s “What You Want” for quite some time now, it was no surprise to find out that he, too, was from Germany — much like Boys Noize, D.I.M., and Digitalism to name a few. I bet their raves are sick.

Anyway, here’s a remix by Siriusmo. It’s upbeat, uplifting, and definitely danceable.

Without further ado, dance.

Housemeister “What You Want (Siriusmo Remix)”

P.S. Sorry for the huuuge lack of posts — school has officially taken over my life, but I’m not complaining. Honestly, it feels good. And I’ll post a mega mega Monday post next week, scout’s honor.

And to make up for this past week and a half’s lack of updates, I’ll give you another treat. This time from France’s Toxic Avenger. Apparently, Europe’s where it’s at… And look at the mask. Fucking badass.

Toxic Avenger “Defeat!”

Unlike Housemeister’s song, this one’s definitely electro bliss; hard, crunchy synths and crash cymbals. Mmmmm.

Throwback Thursday

Posted in Hip Hop with tags on October 9, 2008 by nizmomike

I finally am getting used to my weekly schedule and the muddy waters of the week are finally starting to settle as I’m seeing some free time. I am going to start a new habit and yes make thursdays the throwback funday for everyone. Every thursday (making another commitment here) I will try to post a classic or old school joint that will make you enjoy getting up on fridays because you know sometime that night you will be getting down. Enjoy!

Since its not midnight yet it technically is still Thursday, so this weeks throwback joint comes from a westcoast rapper Mr. X to the Z. XZibit is one of my favoorite rappers and I am still knocking his shit from full circle.

This Track always takes me back to being a little kid…What you see is what you get.

Mega Monday 10-06-08

mega monday 10-06-08

I liked the idea of having a “mega post” like last Monday’s on a frequent basis. So from now on, Mondays will consist of tracks to kick off the week strong.

This weekend was solid; the Dodgers won and the Eagle Rock Music Festival was a drunken bliss.

There isn’t much I can really complain about these days except for the weather. It hasn’t rained hard yet, but it’s been drizzling and sprinkling, and I simply hate the rain. The recent overcasts have nearly been the death of me; it’s too gloomy. As much as I love being indoors, I still want the option to have adventures. Today was nice though.

Anyway, I intended to keep this post disco-oriented, but it easily strayed into some electro and techno and house, and whatever sub-genre you can think of. Most of these are fairly new, while some – namely MSTRKRFT’s All Saints remix – are pretty old. Regardless, when it comes down to it, these tracks will get you grooving.

Peas.

01 King Harvest “Dancing In The Moonlight (MiCHAEL likes to DANCE Mix)”*
02 Kill The Noise “Pull My String”*
03 Cryptonites “Can’t Give You Up (Kill The Noise Remix)”*
04 New Order “Bizarre Love Triangle (Computer Club Remix)”
05 Computer Club “Load Rocket”*
06 Booka Shade “In White Rooms”
07 Duchess Says “Black Flag (Dskotek Remix)”*
08 Starkillers “Scream (Remix)”
09 Starkillers “Discoteka (Remix)”
10 All Saints “Rock Steady (MSTRKRFT Remix)”
11 Breakdown “Feel This!”*
12 Hot Chip “Boy From School (Erol Alkan’s Re-Work)”*
13 Dave Gahan “Kingdom (Digitalism Remix)”*
14 Lykke Li “Breaking It Up (Punks Jump Up Remix)”*
15 Annie “Heartbeats (Röyskopp’s Mindre Tilgjengelige Remix)”*
16 Björk featuring Antony Hegarty “Dull Flame Of Desire (Modeselektor For Boys Remix)”
17 Mylo “Paris Four Hundred (Étienne de Crécy Remix)”
18 Étienne de Crécy “Prix Choc”
19 Étienne de Crécy “Am I Wrong”*
20 Namito & Martin Eyerer “Quipa (Étienne de Crécy Remix)”

Anything followed with an asterisk is a definite must have.

[EDiT -- October 16, 2008]: I don’t want to get sued, thanks.

P.S.

DANCEiSM DJs MiCHAEL are blowing up all over LA. They’ve DJ’d for the HARD Summer Fest afterparty, spun with the likes of Mom Jeans, Classixx, and Squeak E. Clean. They even have a DJ set for Obama. How ’bout them apples. Good for them though.

But yeah, go.

Robert Smith Loves Bright Eyes

Posted in Indie with tags , , , , , , on October 5, 2008 by goinghometime

No, Robert Smith really doesn’t love Bright Eyes, but that is another cliche hit for being resembled an indie pop star…

Check…Check one, two…My first post on pushplayrepeat….Let me push. Now, play.

Who likes covers? I say, rarely…Sometimes the cover ends up being better than original, but what if there is a brand new spankin’ tribute CD to your favorite band?

Let’s start with this, my favorite band in the whole wide world (yes, that is possible) is The Cure. The lead singer is Robert Smith, the King of all “goth” with the eyeliner, lipstick, and big hair. Hey, even Fall Out Boy claims they’re influenced by them.

So, Fall Out Boy says they’re influenced by The Cure and even manages to remix one of their songs on The Cure’s Hypnagogic States EP, which features the four latest singles of The Cure remixed by featured artists..

What makes a great tribute album? Make an indie-esque Cure tribute album, of course!

The latest addition to the many Cure tribute albums is called Just Like Heaven: A Tribute To The Cure. The album features many indie artists including The Wedding Present and The Brunettes. This tribute album is better than your moderate, or actually, shitty tribute album and it made me finally realize that there is room in this world for a GREAT tribute album. I have heard many crappy tribute albums to The Cure and it is rather an insult as a Cure freak, but after hearing this…I am complete again.

God loves indie and The Cure.

Listen to the whole album here or check out their Myspace for selected tracks.

For the record, my favorites off the album are Close To Me and 10:15 Saturday Night!

(Sorry I’m not cool this time around to post an awesome electro song so you can download for free)

Repeat.
